Film thickness is measured in microns (µm). The usual target for most indoor and general industrial work is 60–80 µm; outdoor and architectural work often calls for 80–100 µm.
The more dangerous mistake is going too thin. A film under roughly 50 µm leaves microscopic weak points where moisture reaches the metal, and corrosion starts there regardless of powder quality.
Excess thickness has its own problems: edges lose sharpness, fine detail fills in, texture effects flatten out, and a film that's too heavy becomes more brittle and prone to chipping on impact.
Even distribution matters as much as the average. Thickness varies most at corners, edges and recesses, which is why hanging layout and gun position are planned around the part's geometry.
We measure the cured film with a gauge on every batch and log the reading alongside the RAL code, so the delivered work is documented and a repeat order can be matched exactly.
